Wherever I go, I hear people talk about Earth Hour.
Then when I surf /k/ for lulz, I see gazillions of Earth Hour threads. *boring*
I dunno what do u think about this, I feel that this is just another PR stunt to hype people up to turn off their (unnecessary) lights for one hour. Konon save thecheerleader world lah. Great! Turn off the lights for one hour, what about the rest of the 8759 hours of the year? After this Earth Hour thingy, people will just probably forget about it a few days later and go back to their old ways of living and pollute the earth like no tomorrow, as they always say "hot hot chicken shit".
However, I also acknowledge that there is ONE good thing to this event after all. As Malaysia is going full-throttle on promoting Earth hour (TV and radio ads, posters, banners), the rakyats will be more aware of what is happening to our lovely earth and they can begin by doing little things. Yeah right, small thing like throwing rubbish inside the bin also cannot do, instead they are thrown either outside or around the bin. *cough cough*
Wait, did I just say posters and banners? How many poor trees had been cut just to print those stuffs? And what will happen to that pile of junks after this hoo-ha?

"Hey, do u know about Earth Hour? If u dunno then u're auu (out) loh..."

Now think about this, do you participate in Earth Hour because you really care for the earth or you think it's cool because everyone's doing it? Don't be a hypocrite, do it because you care!
You can do your part by using grocery bags instead of plastic bags. I actually know one dude who doesn't use plastic bag when it's not necessary. Yeah, ONE only.
Lastly, please loop Turn Off the Lights by NellyPotato Furtado as loud as you can and contribute to noise pollution during that hour so other people will turn off their lights as well k...
I've done flaming. Please do your part to save Earth by not flaming me. It generates heat.
Now may I invite you to join Earth Pollution hour at 2130-2230hrs. Please turn on as much lights and electrical appliances as you can.

Not many people are as caring all the time. Not everyone can save the earth all the time. Though we try to, we just forget sometimes. At least with this... people can just commit one single hour and hopefully by doing that, it'll be a reminder for them to save electricity every other day as well.

Hi Kim. I attached here the meaning of Earth Hour. Yes. You are right. The ultimate intention of the Earth Hour campaign is to create global awareness to love our planet and reduce waste. But most people thought that it is fun, it is a trend. But they are wrong. Besides the intention of creating awareness, Earth Hour also represents people voice. The campaign is a good one if people participating it with good intention.
YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE
This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.
